When is Eid 2013? - The Analysis
There seems to be some confusion and rumours going around regarding When is Eid 2013 for this years Eid ul-Fitr which will mark the end of Ramadan 2013.
Eid is expected to be either on Thursday 8th of August or on Friday 9th of August 2013. This is dependent upon the sighting of the New Moon. Please revisit us again tomorrow on the evening of Wednesday 7th of August after 6 PM GMT for when we will announce the official date for Eid 2013.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), taught us to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) which marks the end of Ramadan and the start of Eid ul-Fitr.
There are a lot of websites declaring the date for Eid ul-Fitr already based on calculations and estimates. This leads people onto believe the date for Eid ul-Fitr has been confrmed when it is not the case. A lot of people are forgetting the tradition and Sunnah taught by our prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Yes we can calculate such events to give us an indication, but we should not write it in stone before the sighting is actually confirmed. We need to follow the Quran and Sunnah, the tradition of our beloved prophet (pbuh) - that is to sight the moon before declaring Eid.
We will await confirmation from the Coordination Committee of Major Mosques and Islamic Centres. Please revisit us again on Wednesday 7th of August after 6 PM GMT for when we will announce an official date for Eid 2013.
In the mean don't forget to follow us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter, for the latest news and information for Eid 2013.
Still not convinced?
Now here is something I have been trying to avoid for many years due to the 'politics' behind it all. This year seems to be riddled with many different dates leaving many people confused in disarray with rumours and links to websites confusing the matter even further. So here I will attempt to give my best in giving you a succint answer; there is no straight forward solution to this as many will either agree or disagree; it all falls on what school of thought you follow.
